Is it not the time when we can start to save energy?
The average house wastes energy in the amount of $2000 in a year as a result of the lack of an efficient saving energy system.
Good insulation and glass are the key places of heat loss:
- Nearly 50% of the total loss of heat losses in the home by leaks in attic and walls.
- Most heat is lost through walls - about 33% in uninsulated home.
- 20% of heat is lost through vents.
- 20% of heat is lost as a result of bad insulated window frames and glass in the windows.
Here are some ways to improve energy use at home.
The walls, roofs, windows, doors
- Holes in walls isolation are one of the most common causes of the wasteful use of energy in our home. Insulated leaks in the walls will help to reduce the loss of heat from the walls by 60% and reduce the amount of heating bills.
- By insulating attic to the optimum thickness of 300mm, we can save more than 1/3 the cost of heating.
- Installing double glazing of windows can help reduce the leak of heat through windows by half. Even if we can not afford to exchange windows throughout the house, let’s do it although in most areas where heat loss is the greatest.
- Invest in the tape for sealing doors and windows.
Heating and hot water
- Photovoltaic cells are simple systems panels mounted on roofs, which convert sunlight to electricity. They can provide more than half of the demand for home electricity. It gives even 50% savings on energy bills.
- Similarly, solar panels for water heating can provide 60% - 70% of household demand for hot water.
- Heating and hot water are gives about 60% of annual expenditure. If our bojler has more than 15 years should be replaced with a new one. Installing highly efficient boiler will help save even 1/3 in the accounts.
- By insulating the hot water tank and pipes, we can reduce the passage of heat about 75%.
- Reducing the thermostat by 1 degree gives the saving up to 10% on the bill.
Lighting
- The cost of lighting represent 10% to 15% for electricity bills.
- Energy efficient light bulbs can reduce energy consumption for lighting by up to 3/4.
Home appliances
- Buying “energy efficient” household appliances significantly reduces energy consumption.
Washer of the highest energy class “A++” consumes about 30% - 40% less energy compared to the older models of the lower classes. - Freezer class “A” consumes 3/4 less energy than the 10-year models.
- Instead of dishes by hand, it is worthwhile to do it in the dishwasher.
Water consumption in good models of dishwashers reaches only 36 litres per cycle.
By hand-wash the same number of dishes need more than 100 litres. - Switch off printer when it is not running. Over 90% of its energy is consumed in the year on stand-by! The remaining 10% is just the print!
- Set up our computer to use standby or hibernate during inactivity.
- Do laundry at night from 22:00 to 6:00. Unit prices for electricity during the night, depending on the tariff and energy suppliers are generally two times lower than in the day.
